JOHN MILLS: CONCIERTO DE LANZAMIENTO DE “SEGOVIA THE RAMIREZ YEARS” EN GLYNDE PLACE, EAST SUSSEX

JOHN MILLS

JOHN MILLS
LAUNCHING CONCERT OF “SEGOVIA THE RAMIREZ YEARS” IN GLYDE PLACE, EAST SUSSEX

On Saturday, 21st September 2013, I was invited to the celebration of the opening concert of “Segovia the Ramírez years” by John Mills that took place in England. The event was in Glynde Place, an ancestral house in the outskirts of Lewes, in East Sussex. The hall, apart from being especially pretty, had excellent acoustics, and we were greeted by the owners with great kindness.

I went with Brian Whitehouse and his lovely wife Margaret. When we arrived, after going through a gate consisting of two pillars that were crowned by two magnificent dragons, we were led to a garden with grass and trees, crowded with sheep that were happily grazing. The truth is that I loved this welcome and I enjoyed such a relaxing vision just before entering the house.

The event started with a really interesting and erudite presentation called “The Way to Ramírez” by the guitar player and collector James Westbrook.

The hall was packed, and there were people from different places of England that had came just to attend John Mills concert. He is a beloved guitarist, I could prove it when I saw the warmth with which the audience enjoyed every single moment of the concert and the comments I could gather from them.

I am not a musical critic, so I beg my words are not misunderstood. I will just say that it was a superb concert, he played with his characteristic cleanliness, taking out colors and nuances of a great richness and gentleness, the way he knows, naturally, as if it were easy and always faithful to Segovia’s school that he learned and could develop by himself. It was really exciting to hear a sound which is so familiar and cherished for me.
